How do I prevent backstreaming ? PDF Print E-mail
Backstreaming is most often caused by not cooling and venting properly.  Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for venting found in the user manual.  Always follow these guiding principles:  1) do not allow the power to the rotary pump be interrupted while the mass spec is hot and running (use backup power protection here !!!), 2) do not vent until the instrument is cool, 3) always vent (allow atmosphere or inert gas) to enter from a location closest to the source, as far away as possible from the pump inlet.
